Three-wheeled Gensol EV spied for the first time

The company recently invested Rs 2,000 crore in Gujarat for a new EV manufacturing facility.

A prototype of the unique three-wheeled Gensol EV, which was teased late last year, was recently spied testing on our roads. Slated for a debut in March this year, this as yet unnamed EV will be positioned as a compact urban electric runabout. This will be the company’s first EV which is a subsidiary of Gensol Engineering that offers ride-hailing players in the country with its buy-and-lease package of EV cars.

Gensol EV: what do the spy shots reveal?

While we had already anticipated a three-wheel setup for the upcoming EV, this spy shot gives us a clear view of single wheel on the rear axle positioned in the centre. The two-door EV has a conventional looking front end, but tapers slightly at the rear and pushes up to make space for the rear wheel hub. It also seems to have a hatch-like opening at the rear, flanked by halogen tail lamps.

The teaser previously also confirmed LED DRLs with Citroen-like halogen headlamps, a floating roof design with a moonroof, dual-tone wheels and a prominent kink in the window line in the rear quarter glass area.

The interior will likely feature a four-seat layout with conveniences of a large, floating touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, and air conditioning, among others. It will also have in-cabin driver assistance technology, AI-based cloud analytics and an intuitive unique user experience, among other things.

There are not much technical details available as of yet, but the company claims a range of 200km and a top-speed of 80kph. This strictly positions it as an urban runabout, although it should be much more affordable than an MG Comet, and will have fewer niceties.

In essence, it could be positioned closer to the four-door, two-seater PMV Eas-E electric quadricycle that was launched last year for Rs 4.79 lakh, ex-showroom.

Gensol invests Rs 2,000 crore for new EV plant

The company current has a company’s greenfield plant in Chakan, Pune that boasts of an in-plant testing track and a next-generation end-of-line vehicle testing facility, ensuring that each vehicle meets the highest standards of quality and performance.

More recently, in the lead up to the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, Gensol Engineering signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Gujarat (MoU) to invest Rs 2000 crore for a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility of EVs. It is expected to create 1,500 green jobs in the region, churning out both commercial and private vehicles.

Anmol Singh Jaggi, Co-founder, Gensol Group said, “The Rs 2,000 crore investment stands as a testament to our confidence in the state’s commitment to sustainable growth and green manufacturing.”
